EMPLOYMENT TERMS: Full-time position

POSITION SUMMARY : The Assistant Director/Instructional Designer works closely with the Director of Northwest Online/Learning & Teaching Center. This position will oversee the universitys learning management system, which is Canvas, train and support faculty, and assist the director as needed.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

1. Assist the director with Learning & Teaching Center initiatives

2. Oversee the learning management system--Canvas

3. Create semester course sites

4. Oversee loading faculty and student enrollments

5. Train faculty in the use of Canvas

6. Train faculty in the use of other software and hardware needed for teaching and learning

7. Support faculty in the design of course sites

8. Develop and teach workshops for faculty professional development

9. Organize the New Faculty Orientation

10. Provide faculty with updates to LMS software on a regular basis

11. Work with the Computer & Programming Specialist and the Video & Web Conferencing Specialist to encourage and support the integration of instructional technologies in teaching and learning

12. Perform other duties as assigned

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Provide leadership to the student employment supervisor and team in determining appropriate projects especially the graphic designers

2. Assist in selecting, distributing, and training new faculty on tablet and notebook computers and other hardware and software

3. Assist with the day-to-day operations of the Learning & Teaching Center, including planning, organizing, scheduling, and evaluation

4. Develop a range of programs in collaboration with faculty in the schools and departments to advance effective teaching and student learning and measure effectiveness

5. Assist with the development of new faculty orientation programs, one-to-one consultations, pedagogical and instructional technology training sessions, and the development of learning communities;

6. Provide professional development support for Northwest faculty in the development and sharing of effective teaching techniques, instructional technology practices and in the use of innovative digital technologies and services through the development of the fall and spring faculty professional development series

7. Research and continually monitor the instructional and digital technology environments for trends

REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Masters degree in Instructional Technology or design, educational technology, information systems, pedagogy, faculty development or equivalent

Experience: Experience in higher education; Experience working with diverse groups of people; Leadership experience; Online teaching experience, Experience with learning management system preferably Canvas; Experience in the application of teaching and pedagogy techniques and information/instructional technology to learning with an emphasis on instructional design either from a similar position; Background in classroom teaching both face-to-face and online; Three years of experience in a professional development and educational technology

Skills: Strong interpersonal and communications skills, Project and human resources management skills; Extensive knowledge in budget planning and management; Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment; Strong organizational and analytical skills; Ability to manage projects and design/implement/evaluate programs

WORKING CONDITIONS: Typical office environment

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position will assist with the supervision of staff within the Learning & Teaching Center

EQUIPMENT/MATERIALS USED : Office machines including computer, tablet, and software (e.g.; Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, LMS, etc.). MS Outlook email is used for all departmental communication. Canvas learning management system.
