The Senior Technical Writer works independently with little or no direct supervision under guidance of the VP of IT Shared Services utilizing independent judgment and discretion in developing accurate documentation and materials needed to communicate necessary information to a project team and to both internal and external customers. Sr. Technical Writer oversees the creation and management of documentation in compliance with current Connection policies.
Responsibilities
- Creates and provides material for hard and soft copy documents to include manuals, on-line text, and Wiki environments.
- Assists in the development of web-based training, where applicable.
- Assists training department in development of curriculum and content for materials, as required.
- Aids the Information Technology teams in development of technical documentation when needed.
- Maintains and increases skills by keeping up with the latest developments in the field of technical communication.
- Assists Business Analysts and other department members in creating/importing requirements through technical documentation into the required program management tools.
- Ensures compliance with all corporate policies, procedures, standards, and audit activities.
- Ensures projects and tasks are successfully completed, and objectives effectively met, on time and within expectations.
- Works with key business segments and peer groups to ensure effective collaboration and communication around documentation requirements and related initiatives.
- Performs all other duties or special projects as assigned.
Requirements
- Experience developing diverse types of documentation such as user manuals, implementation guides, tutorials, white papers, and/or programming guides.
- Technical aptitude with ability to develop an understanding of the products and solutions delivered and able to quickly learn and understand technical solutions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong technical skills and the ability to interact with engineering and end-users across all technical levels.
- Proven ability to conduct in-depth research, gather information from technical sources, and synthesize it into understandable content.
- Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, and Visio.
- Working knowledge of authoring and editing tools such as Adobe and other various tools in the execution of documentation delivery.
- Experience with effective collaboration with all levels of business management in defining, justifying, and executing the enterprise voice strategy.
- Cross-functional experience with ability to work in a shared services support paradigm leveraging resources from multiple divisions and geographic locations.
- Adaptable with ability to switch tasks based on shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Decisive with ability to make a prompt determination and substantiate decision if challenged.
- Interpersonal skills with ability to work well with all levels of the organization.
- Organized state of mind with ability to document activities, anticipate problems, plan schedules, and monitor performance according to priorities and deadlines.
- Quick study with ability to master a situation or learn new things with minimum direction or training.
