ABOUT THE POSITION
The Managing Editor-Scientific Journals partners with our editors-in-chief, editorial boards, Publications Committee, and third-party publisher to develop a strong portfolio of materials science journals, exploit new business opportunities, lead journal operations, and add value for ACerS members and the scientific community. The Managing Editor will develop and implement effective marketing plans and activities to attract the highest caliber authors and ensure efficient editorial, review, and publishing operations. This is a full-time hybrid position based out of ACerS Westerville, Ohio, headquarters office.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Requires a college degree with an advanced degree preferred.
- Experience in managing scientific journals or related technical products is a plus.
- 5+ years experience in publishing, product marketing and/or sales of technical products.
- Must be a creative and assertive leader with outstanding interpersonal and organizational skills, strong marketing and presentation skills, excellent command of English language, and ability to work effectively with both staff and volunteers.
- Manages journal products, Phase Equilibria Diagram and book programs, and is the liaison to the Publications Committee.
- Manages efficient operations of journal review processes, implements standards for turnaround times, and evaluates journal editors performance.
- Oversees branding, product positioning, marketing analysis, competitor analysis, author marketing, product expansion, and new product development.
- Facilitates development of editorial strategy and policy, attracts top authors, identifies and targets new research areas, and establishes quality standards.
- Defines and gathers data from multiple sources, both directly and indirectly to inform decisions, ideally with experience creating and running database queries.
- Ensures efficient operations of journal review processes, implements standards for turnaround times, and evaluates journal editors performance.
- Manages publisher relations and ensures that ACerS is receiving the primary focus of its publisher.
- Requires 20% travel.
- Starting salary $70,000/annually.
