We are seeking a curious, talented and persistent Washington-based reporter to cover the US government's oversight and handling of misinformation, data privacy, surveillance, cybersecurity and other digital security challenges.
This reporter will keep close tabs on and source up with key decision in the federal government, including the White House, federal agencies, intelligence agencies and Congress. Criminals, spies, investors, technologists and entities of all kinds are rushing to leverage the digital world for their own gain. This reporter should be in regular touch with sources who are influencing and tracking this world to deliver breaking news stories, scoops and deeply reported, inside-the-room coverage that shapes the national agenda and illuminates the players in this murky world.
To apply, please submit a resume and at least 3 three examples of your work by Monday March 31.
We'll trust you to:
-Take initiative in identifying and chasing breaking news; unpack complicated; topics quickly; and deliver clean and focused copy on a daily basis;
-Collaborate on investigative projects with other reporters on the cyber team and work hand-in-hand with journalists across the broader Bloomberg newsroom;
-Pitch and execute well on enterprise;
-Contribute to a range of platforms, including the Bloomberg Terminal, the web, Bloomberg Businessweek, Bloomberg TV and short videos;
-Be committed to the best journalistic practices.
You'll need to have:
- Five-plus years of journalism experience;
- Commitment to the idea that journalism can and should hold the powerful to account;
- A burning interest in exposing malicious uses of technology and the people or organizations behind them;
- A record of producing high-quality breaking news and scoops;
- Ability to work quickly under deadline pressure;
- Eagerness to across teams and time zones.
